Reality Based Self Defense is an introductory course designed to prepare the mindset.  Self defense is to be used as a last resort.  This course is designed to help individuals reduce the chances of becoming a victim, teaching simple, (proven to be effective) techniques to be used to protect and defend your life or the life of a loved one.

This course will include a brief, 15 minute lecture, warm up and hands on instruction. It is important to know your safety is our first priority. The techniques will be explained, demonstrated, then executed in a controlled environment. The participants will strike pads and shields to practice the various techniques. The curriculum will include stance, movement, basic blocks, upper body strikes, lower body strikes and combination drills.

The best form of self defense is avoidance. There are three options when confronted with physical violence. These include freeze, flight or fight. Having the right mindset and situational awareness is key. The sooner the threat is identified, the more time will be allowed to assess the situation and act accordingly. Unless you are a trained/professional fighter, it will come down to preemptive defense techniques, early recognition, timing and confidence. Using the proper technique at the right distance and targeting the most sensitive areas will increase the likelihood of victory. There is no perfect technique, there is only “opportunity”.

It is our hope that you will further your training in learning valuable self-defense skills. It is important to learn from a reputable, safe instructor. You may add to your knowledge by reading and participating in online courses. Any knowledge is an asset and most helpful in learning proper form and techniques. Practice of these techniques is vital! It takes an average 3,000 repetitions to master a single technique. It is important to train the mind AND the body. Self-defense is a mindset, not just a class. You will reap the full benefits based on your efforts. Remember, it’s not the number of hours you put in, it’s what you put in to each hour that truly matters!
